I know I say that I miss working with a lot of my couples once the wedding weekend has come and gone, and every time its said it’s entirely true, but this especially goes for Kayleigh & Nick and their families.
Kayleigh, Nick, and Kayleigh’s mom, Mrs. Lee, were so extremely kind and sweet from our very first conversation, all throughout their wedding week, and even in the weeks to follow.
Kayleigh & Nick contracted Just Us Weddings for full service planning and design, and the only thing they had decided prior to contracting Us was that they wanted to get married at Chateau of the Isle, a very large rental house situated directly on the beach in Indian Beach, NC. Once we nailed down their venue, we dove into their design plan. Kayleigh wanted crisp whites and touches of blush with lots of natural greens, and that’s exactly what she got.
The great thing about Chateau of the Isle is that vendors have lots of flexibility as to when they can set up, since the house is rented by the week. So install started Wednesday of wedding week, with Curated Events Raleigh bringing in our tent, lighting, basic event furniture (tables and chairs), as well as a lounge set. However, the weather this week wasn’t exactly looking ideal, and the walls of the tent were initially installed rolled up. The problem with this, is that they were installed during a little bit of rain, and they were rolled so tightly that it took myself (Courtney), Kayleigh, Mrs. Lee, and Kayleigh’s dad Mr, John, (plus Nick and other helping hands for a few of the walls) to get these sidewalls pulled down on Thursday. It was truly a team effort here with lots of physical labor, and most certainly a day of great bonding!
All jokes aside, I have never seen a family work harder together to make this wedding happen. The weather got pretty rough throughout the next few days, with just a step under a tropical storm level-of-rain-and-wind predicted for the wedding day – but that didn’t stop us!
Come Friday, we made the decision to push forward as originally planned, and it most certainly was the right decision. Friday night kicked off their ceremony rehearsal, followed by a tropical-themed rehearsal dinner on the deck, catered by Beaufort Grocery Co. with florals from Sandy’s Flower Shop, a groom’s cake from Famous Baking Co. and linens from BBJ LaTavola.
Reign Beauty kicked off the wedding day for Kayleigh and her wedding party in the main suite at Chateau of the Isle, while Nick and his party enjoyed a relaxed morning of sports and pool in the other section of the mansion. Just Us Weddings, along with BBJ LaTavola (table linens & napkins), Sandy’s Flower Shop (florist), and Martha My Dear (specialty furniture, welcome sign mirror, and escort wall), began our ceremony and reception setup. Kayleigh and Mrs. Lee absolutely love flowers, so with several large-scale installations planned, Sandy’s Flower Shop made these two ladies so happy in everything they designed for the weekend
Kinsey Ann Photography (photography) and The Axtell’s Photo + Film (videographer) were the next vendors to arrive, and they began by shooting the couple’s details. Kayleigh shortly after got dressed with the help of her mom, had her first look with her wedding party, dad, and grandpa; then Nick got dressed with the help of both his mom and dad, and then took pictures with his wedding party. Just before they had to go into hiding, they had a first touch and exchanged vows privately.
Guests arrived via Diamond Bus Co. and were greeted with the musical stylings of DJ Drew from All Around Raleigh DJ. The ceremony was held on the Chateau’s deck, in front of four floral-covered pillars overlooking the beach, and even on a bit of a gloomy day, the setting was simply stunning. Family Pastor Sharon Wheeler married Kayleigh and Nick in front of fifty of their closest friends and family, and they were announced husband and wife just as the sky was starting to clear up!
Guests then made their way into the Chateau’s main living space for cocktail hour with Beaufort Grocery Co. both tending bar and serving hors d’oeuvres, and entertained by live painter Brittany Rawls Art. At the same time, Nick and Kayleigh took their family portraits and were even able to sneak down to the beach for wedding party and newlywed portraits with the break in the weather.
Given the weather, our original plan of creating a lawn-lounge area simply wasn’t in the cards, so the Just Us team got extra creative, and transformed one of the Chateau’s garages into an intimate cocktail lounge with the help of black pipe and drape borrowed from the Beaufort Hotel. Once portraits were completed and the marriage license was signed Kayleigh and Nick, as well as Mrs. Lee and Mr. John were having their first look of the finished cocktail lounge and reception tent.
Following cocktail hour, guests made their way to the tent so that we could start the reception! Kayleigh and Nick had their grand entrance and went right into their first dance, followed by a welcome toast from Mrs. Lee and Mr. John. Beaufort Grocery Co. then served a buffet-style of dinner, which was topped off with the newlyweds cutting their cake (from Famous Baking Co.), as well as hearing toasts from their wedding party – DJ Drew then did what he did best and officially started the party from here!
After a little bit of dancing, Kayleigh changed into her reception dress (and far more comfortable shoes), and her and Nick had a second grand entrance, and then danced the night away with their guests. The evening ended with Kayleigh and Nick having a private dance and then running through sparklers in the rain!
I absolutely adored working with this entire family and look forward to staying in contact with them for many, many years. Cheers to the new Mr. & Mrs. Modlin!
